The primary principal guiding our work is multidisciplinarity. Our aim is to bring together people of various backgrounds who share an interest in the history of medicine and health in a wide sense. We warmly welcome researchers of natural sciences and humanities alike; all those interested in medical history are welcome as well. Along with researchers, our member base includes a significant amount of healthcare professionals interested in the history of their field. In all our work, we aspire to promote dialogue and to provide an encouraging and enthusiastic space for meeting and discussion.

In addition to the regular activities aimed at members, the society participates on national and international discourse regarding medical history. If necessary, we can for example answer enquiries on medical history, forward such enquiries to specialists, or publish statements. Together with sister societies based in other Nordic countries we organise the biannual Nordic Medical History Congress. We also organise events for wider audiences, such as lecture series.
